Track Details: 0.5 -mile oval / 300 laps
No. 08: Gray Gaulding Result: 15th
No. 07: Ray Black Jr. Result: 16th
Team 08 Panini Chevrolet Camaro:
Gaulding and his 08 Panini team started off the weekend with great speed after they finished final practice in the fifth position. Gaudling would roll off from the 19th position for the 300 lap battle in the Last Great Colosseum, which he considers to be one of his favorite race tracks.
The green flag dropped and Gaulding quickly began moving forward. Gaulding battled his way to the 15th position and received the lucky dog after caution was displayed on lap 43. At the end of the first stage Gaulding remained in the 15th position.
The second stage was relatively clean as Gaudling settled in the 16th position. Caution was displayed on lap 165 for a spinning car, which would also be the conclusion of the second stage. Crew Chief Patrick Donahue made some slight adjustments to help his driver’s entry for the final stage. Gaudling raced smart in the final stage of the race. When the checkered flag fell, Gaulding brought his No. 08 Panini Chevy Camaro home in the 15th position. This was the 08 team’s second top fifteen finish of the year.
Gray Gaulding:
“It was a solid day for us in the Panini Chevy. Our guys worked hard all day and built a great race car from the start. We had a couple bad luck moments that led to us going a couple laps down, but I’m very happy that we continue to run around the top 15 weekly. I’m really excited to see our consistency and to see what’s in store for SS Green Light Racing the rest of the season. Thanks to Panini and all our partners for what they do to make this all possible.”
Bobby Dotter Thoughts on the 08 Team:
“The 08 team continues to show great speed. Patrick and the team did a great job preparing the race car and Gray drove a really smart race. It was a very solid points day for us and happy to get another great run for our new partner Panini.”
Team 07 Isokern Fireplaces & Chimneys Chevrolet Camaro:
After a mechanical failure ended the 07 team’s day prematurely last week in Texas, Ray Black Jr. was determined to get back on track at Bristol Motor Speedway. The 07 began their day from the 21st position.
Ray Black Jr. slowly picked his way forward in the opening stage. Black radioed he was a little too tight, but managed to finish the first stage in the 18th position.
Crew Chief Jason Miller rolled the dice early with a strategy call to take a wave around in order to gain one of their laps back. The strategy paid off and Black drove the 07 for all it was worth. At the end of the second stage Black was in the 17th position. Miller made a few more slight adjustments to loosen up the 07 Isokern Fireplaces & Chimneys Chevy for Black in the final stage. When it was all said and done Black brought home the 07 in the 16th position. This was the team’s fourth top 20 finish of the season.
Ray Black Jr:
“This was a great bounce back weekend for our team. We made positive improvements all throughout the race and kept all the fenders on it. We will take a 16th place finish and look to be even better in Richmond.”
Bobby Dotter Thoughts on the 07 Team:
“This was a great bounce back weekend for the 07 team. Ray and Jason worked great together all weekend. They got better throughout the race and brought home a great finish.”
Looking Ahead:
After a bounce back weekend, SS Green Light Racing drivers Gray Gaulding and Ray Black Jr. sit 15th and 17th respectively in the NASCAR Xfinity Series points standings. SS Green Light Racing will have a quick turn around with Richmond Raceway on the horizon. Coverage of the ToyotaCare 250 from Richmond Raceway will begin Friday April 12th at 7:00 PM ET on FS1.
